Third Mangrove Restoration with Virgin Voyages in 2025

Global Coralition, EcoSoluciones and Virgin Voyages planted 1,300 red mangroves in Cabarete, marking their third joint restoration event in 2025.

On Sunday, June 31, 2025, Global Coralition and Virgin Voyages came together for another impactful day of ecosystem restoration on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. This event saw the planting of 1,300 red mangroves (Rhizophora mangle) in the Cabarete and Goleta Laggon, reinforcing a shared commitment to building climate resilience through coastal restoration.

The day began with an educational talk on the ecological importance of mangroves and the ongoing initiatives led by Global Coralition and EcoSoluciones. Volunteers then participated directly in the planting of mangroves, followed by a beachfront lunch that created space for reflection, connection, and community.

This was the third mangrove restoration event with Virgin Voyages this year, and part of a longer collaboration that now totals around nine reforestation activities. For Virgin, these initiatives are woven into their corporate social and environmental responsibility strategy, serving as a tangible way to contribute to carbon mitigation efforts connected to their cruise operations.

Mangroves play a vital role in the fight against climate change: they capture and store large amounts of carbon, buffer coastlines against storms, and provide essential habitats for marine biodiversity. Each planting day is not only a step toward ecosystem restoration but also an investment in a more sustainable and resilient future for our communities and oceans.
