Growing Together: Students from the International School of Sosúa Join Mangrove Reforestation at Cabarete Lagoon

On October 6th, Global Coralition hosted a reforestation day at the Cabarete and Goleta Lagoon with students from the International School of Sosúa. Through hands-on learning and mangrove planting, the activity empowered young leaders to take action for coastal conservation and environmental stewardship.

On Sunday, October 6th, Global Coralition led a meaningful reforestation activity at the Cabarete and Goleta Lagoon, joined by 15 enthusiastic students and two teachers from the International School of Sosúa.

The initiative aimed to raise environmental awareness among youth and inspire their active participation in the conservation and restoration of coastal and marine ecosystems.

Throughout the morning, students learned about the ecological importance of mangroves and other native species—how they protect coastlines from erosion, filter water, and provide vital habitats for countless animal species. Educational and interactive activities encouraged teamwork, curiosity, and a deeper connection with nature, helping participants understand the life cycle of plants and their role in the ecosystem.

The highlight of the day was the mangrove reforestation itself, where students worked side by side to plant 75 young mangrove seedlings, directly contributing to the restoration of the lagoon’s fragile ecosystem.

By the end of the morning, smiles and muddy hands told the story of a rewarding experience that strengthened the bond between the local community and the natural environment. This activity fostered environmental responsibility, teamwork, and a shared commitment to protecting the natural treasures of Cabarete.
