Sailing for Sustainability: Virgin Voyages Joins Global Coralition to Restore Mangroves in Cabarete

On November 4, 2025, Global Coralition and Virgin Voyages joined forces for a mangrove restoration day at the Cabarete and Goleta Lagoon, planting 160 mangroves to protect and regenerate vital coastal ecosystems in the Dominican Republic.

On November 4, 2025, Global Coralition welcomed a group of volunteers from Virgin Voyages for a hands-on environmental restoration activity focused on mangrove conservation. The event took place at the Cabarete and Goleta Lagoon, one of the island’s most important coastal wetlands and a key site for ecosystem restoration.

Together, participants planted 160 mangrove seedlings, directly contributing to the recovery of this essential habitat. Mangroves act as natural barriers against coastal erosion, filter and purify water, and provide nurseries for countless marine species — including juvenile fish that sustain nearby coral reefs.

Beyond the planting, the activity offered a space for education and awareness, where the Virgin Voyages team learned about the ecological importance of mangroves and their crucial role in protecting both land and sea.

This collaboration reflects how corporate action and environmental stewardship can work hand in hand to create long-term impact. Through initiatives like this, Global Coralition continues to unite organizations, communities, and travelers committed to restoring nature and fostering sustainability in the Dominican Republic.

Every mangrove planted is a promise to the planet — one root at a time.
