Exploring Nature and Nurturing Curiosity: Isla Academy Kids at Cabarete Lagoon
On September 12th, Global Coralition and EcoSoluciones hosted a unique environmental experience with 17 children from Isla Academy at Rugama Tours, an ecological park by the Cabarete Lagoon.
On Friday, September 12th, we had the joy of sharing a truly special experience with 17 children between the ages of 6 and 9 from Isla Academy in Sosúa. The event took place at Rugama Tours, an ecological park located on the shores of the Cabarete Lagoon.
We began the day with a short talk about water hyacinth: what it is, how it can be used, and why it’s important to keep it under control. The children were especially interested since they are currently working on a school project to build a pond, and water hyacinth could become an ally in filtering the water.
Afterward, we explored the park, encountered several animals, and then boarded a boat to tour the lagoon. Our journey took us along the river and all the way to La Boca de Cabarete. While on the boat, we introduced the children to the world of mangroves, explaining their benefits, their ecological importance, and how they protect us all. The highlight was planting mangrove seeds directly into the lagoon—an unforgettable hands-on experience!
The day was filled with fun, laughter, and meaningful lessons, leaving the children inspired and more connected to the natural world. Activities like these remind us of the importance of fostering environmental awareness from a young age and ensuring that future generations grow up as guardians of our ecosystems.
