Exploring Mangroves with Isla Academy Students

On November 28, Global Coralition and EcoSoluciones RD hosted an educational mangrove experience with 18 students from Isla Academy at Rugama Tours, fostering environmental awareness through hands-on learning in the Cabarete Lagoon.

On Friday, November 28, Global Coralition, through its operational hub EcoSoluciones RD, welcomed a group of 18 students aged 10 to 13 from Isla Academy for an immersive environmental learning experience at Rugama Tours, an ecological park located on the shores of the Cabarete Lagoon.

The day began with an educational talk on mangroves: what they are, the vital role they play in coastal protection, their benefits for biodiversity, and why they are essential for the health of the lagoon and surrounding communities. Students ended the session with a fun and engaging trivia challenge in teams to reinforce what they learned.

Afterwards, the group explored the ecological park, observing local wildlife before boarding a boat for a guided tour through the lagoon. The journey took them along the river and all the way to La Boca de Cabarete, where the students also enjoyed time swimming and connecting with the natural environment.

Once back at Rugama Tours, the group shared lunch together, closing a memorable morning filled with learning, discovery, and appreciation for the ecosystems that sustain coastal life.

This activity reflects Global Coralition’s mission to strengthen environmental education and inspire younger generations to care for and protect their natural surroundings.
